LIVELIHOOD AND FOOD SECURITY

Uganda as a country is faced with a number of socio-cultural, economic and political challenges, which propagate high levels of poverty and inequality. Because of that, vulnerable groups like youth, women and people with disability are limited to participate in economic and political decisions that affect them. Additionally, it limits their access to opportunities and resources, and makes them more prone to risks, shocks and other vulnerabilities.

UREA works to rescue and empower the vulnerable women, youth, people with disability and other vulnerable groups in a range of Ugandan livelihood settings to improve their livelihoods, enjoy their rights to food, have increased incomes, reduce inequality and lead dignified lives by ensuring sustainable and smart agriculture, and adaptive use of land, water.

Additionally, UREA focuses on increasing agricultural production and quality of agricultural commodities, value chain addition, market systems strengthening and linkages, small holder farming model for subsistence and commercialization agriculture, and promote agro-ecologic model in rural communities. We also enhance skills development the farmers in participatory agricultural enterprise development

In Uganda where agriculture is the backbone of the economy where over 70% of the population is employed, organizing farmers and agriculture production systems to promote mass production and create employment for the rural communities and rescue them from poverty is our commitment.

Therefore, UREA strives to increase productivity and opportunities for youth and women through increased livelihood options by piloting innovative interventions that increase skills and facilitate access to new technologies including ICT to create employment opportunities for female and male youths.
